Lure of Alaska

Lure of Alaska

Each year over a million people visit Alaska, which is legendary for its spectacular mountains, glaciers, and wildlife, not to mention unique people who call Alaska home, such as the former engineer and attorney, Phil Koonz, who carved out a living when he moved his family here. Respected cinematographer-lecturer Dale Johnson takes us far beyond the well-known cities of Anchorage and Juneau, the capital, to little-known places such as Wrangle, home to St. Elias National Park, which is larger than Switzerland; remote Galena, just west of the 2000-mile Yukon River that divides the state in half; to Bristol Bay, where there are more grizzly bears than humans; to Denali National Park and the highest mountain in North America, Mt. McKinley; onward to Glacier Bay National Park, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, then to the Kroschel Wildlife Center, where the owner, Steve Kroschel, doesn't mind as the animals steal the show. Produced by Trailwood Films. 2013 JSCA 82 min. HD
