What do Glenn Bady and Benjamin Franklin have in common? Franklin loved chess just as Bady does. After playing the game for over 50 years, Franklin in 1786 published an essay called "The Morals of Chess" in the Columbian Magazine in Philadelphia. Coincidentally, Bady is from Philadelphia. He and a fellow student of West Philadelphia High School, Wilbert Paige, played and studied the game for hours; eventually, Glenn joined the U.S. Air Force and played chess around the world, becoming so expert at the game that the United States Chess Federation awarded him the title of Advance Life Master. In this program he speaks with host Esther Mills about his favorite subject; he discusses the different possibilities that chess offers to various people; he reveals his favorite chess piece, and also explains that although he has played chess for over 33 years he has still not mastered the game. 2010 JSCA 30 min.
