29. A Soldier's Life (Centurions, Vikings, Red Coats)

Timeblazers Jen (Heidi Leigh) and Sam (Mike Ackerman) travel back in history with Alex (Stephen Joffe) to learn what things were like for soldiers in real life. First they travel to the year 114 BC, when Rome was as the height of its power, and Roman legions were the strongest military in the world. Centurions trained Legionnaires vigorously; marching 20 miles in full battle gear was a common drill. Next we meet the Vikings, who hailed from northern Europe, what is now Scandinavia; not only were they great sailors, they were also fierce warriors. During the Middle Ages, Viking tribes were feared throughout most of Europe. Then we travel to the War of 1812, fought between the United States and Great Britain. It was this war that gave America the "Star Spangled Banner." The British soldiers were called Redcoats, the color of their uniforms, and they were well trained at musket and cannon fire. In the end the war ended as a stalemate. 05/10DE IJ 30 min.
