As Shakira (Jasmine Richards) plans the special dish she's going to make for her mom's birthday, she realizes that meal preparation must have been pretty complicated before the days of food processors, slicers and dicers. Until now, she really hadn't given much thought to what people ate in centuries past. On cue, Sam (Mike Ackerman) and Jen (Heidi Leigh) whisk Shakira away on a culinary blast into the past to see first-hand how the caveman progressed from picking raw fruits and berries, to hunting and cooking meats; how the ancient Greeks had to make an offering to the gods before they could sit down to a meal; how the ancient Romans would actually purge to make room for more food, which was nothing compared to the eating habits of the medieval nobles, who often indulged in 13-course meals; also she learns about Queen Marie Antoinette, who is most famous for not actually saying, about starving 18th-century French peasants, "if they have no bread, let them eat cake." Shakira figures if people had been treated better, things may have turned out differently for the queen. Back home Shakira puts the finishing touches on her mother's dinner - a savory meal that dates back to the Empire of Genghis Khan. 05/10DE IJ 30 min.
