"Highly Recommended. This excellent program pulls no punches, presenting young people speaking candidly about using cigarettes, alcohol and drugs, explaining what kinds of warnings work and which ones don't; it also includes addicted people who've hit bottom, who are blunt about the truth, which one hopes would effectively enlighten young viewers about the negatives in getting hooked." -National Media Review
Addiction - it is a very serious affliction. Cigarettes, alcohol, ecstacy, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, meth; these are all real threats to real people, and often, really young people; most addicts admit they became hooked at a young age. With that in mind host Patty Sullivan begins by explaining this program was produced to help young viewers make an informed decision about the use of cigarettes, alcohol and drugs. Through candid and frank discussions with real-life 'tweens, teens and adults, as well as profiles from former addicted individuals, plus insights from respected experts, the program provides objective facts about these substances, raising viewers awareness about addictions and the impact the abuse of addictive substances can have on their lives; it also examines the problems and influences that young people face, such as having to deal with peer pressure and trying not to be swayed by persuasive advertising campaigns. Underscoring the program's theme, we learn of TeenNet, a health promotion website, which has been developed to help young people who are seeking assistance to make a positive choice for their life. Produced by TV Ontario. 09DR IJ 15 min.
