Cultura de San Luis, La (Culture of San Luis) (cc)

This is the story of the early settlers who came to the San Luis Valley, where they carved a life out of this harsh, arid land with irrigation, farming and a rich Hispanic culture with roots in Mexico and Spain. We meet descendants of these self-sufficient people, including Olibama Lopez Tushar and Madovio Martinez, who discuss how these early pioneers worked and played together for the common good; then Eppie Archuleta talks about the importance of wool and weaving textiles, Josie Lobato introduces us to colcha embroidery, and we learn about Santos, the art of carving religious icons, from Rubel Jaramillo; also we meet Fr. Pat Valdez and discover the importance of the church to the communities here, where today people still carry on centuries-old traditions. 01/08DE/CC Closed-Captioned IJSCA 30 min.
