Cooled by the constant trade winds with scents of flowers and spice filling the air, the Caribbean Islands may seem like the islands of Eden; however, it is easy to forget that the history of these islands is filled with the times of bloody pirates and sugar plantations that created their great wealth from the labor of slaves. Here we tour these islands, absorbing both the beauty and heritage of this part of the world. First we go to beautiful St. Thomas to visit Blackbeard's Castle, old Ft. Christian, Megan's Bay, Charlotte Amelia and the underwater world of Coral World; next, on St. John, we're submerged in the mangrove forest of Virgin Island National Park; then a brid's eye view of Virgin Gorda; next to St. Croix to the only underwater park in the U.S. National Park System; then to the capital city of Christianstad and ending at the beautifully preserved Wimm Plantation. We explore the beautiful islands of St. Martin/San Martine, St. Barts, Saba, one of the smallest inhabited islands, St. Kitts, and its fort of Brimstone Hill, plus batik making; then Martinique's lavish capital city, Fort de France; then Harvest Sunday on Barbados, plus Bridgetown, Harrison's Cave, and Sam Lord's Castle to see how cane sugar is processed. We explore the island of Grenada, which is filled with stories of how people live; we meet native fishermen, learn of holiday celebrations, see native boat building, attend market, and experience a tropical storm. To end the program, we are immersed in "Carnival" in Trinidad and the capital city of Port of Spain. Produced by Trailwood Productions, Inc. 08DR JSCA 90 min.
