Israel: Stories From the Holy Lands

Israel: Stories From the Holy Lands

"Recommended. Great heart went into the making of this documentary; it gets top marks." -The Seattle Times
The term "Holy Land" dates back thousands of years and each year Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Baha'i make pilgrimages to Israel's Holy Lands. This classic documentary guides viewers to these ancient sites and shares their centuries-old sacred history. We travel from Tel Aviv to Joppa, where Jonah set sail; then we visit Nablos, once Shechem, the first capital of the Kingdom of Israel; Mount Gerizim, a sacred site for Samaritans; and Caesarea, to explore Roman and Crusader ruins. We visit Mount Carmel National Park, which is Israel's largest; the Baha'i Shrine and Gardens in Haifa; the Ahmed el-Jazzar mosque in Akko; the sea-carved caves of Rosh Ha'Nikra; and the ruins of the Montfort Crusader Castle. We explore an archaeological dig in Banias; then many New Testament sites, including Capernaum, the Church of the Beatitudes, the Church of the Multiplication, and Nazareth; also we tour the Basilica of the Annunciation, the Church of St. Joseph; Cana; Mount Tabor; Belvior; and the archaeological digs at Bet She'an. We visit Jericho, the Judean Desert; the Monastery of St. George; the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found; the mighty fortress of Masada; Eilan; Hai Bar; and Bethlehem. We end our journey in Jerusalem, where we visit the Knesset; the Supreme Court Building; Yad Vashem, the memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust; the Garden Tomb; Arab Suq (market); the Western (Wailing) Wall; and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
