Germany Unified and Europe Transformed

Germany Unified and Europe Transformed

Douglas Foster, the Director of Stanford News Service, welcomes Condaleeza Rice, who discusses the book, Germany Unified and Europe Transformed, which, before becoming the 66th United States Secretary of State, she co-wrote with American diplomat, academic and author Philip Zelikow, who currently is the White Burkett Miller Professor of History at the University of Virginia. Both are former members of the first President George Bush's National Security Council staff. She explains that she took a leave of absence from Stanford University in 1989 to serve as the Special Assistant for National Security Affairs and that her time in Washington coincided with momentous events, including the unraveling of the Soviet Union, the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. Here she gives viewers an insider's look at how these happenings came about and what they meant to the world. 00/08DE SCA 30 min.
