Israel: Holy Land, Heavenly Voices

What is it like to perform one of the great works of classical music with one of the most renowned conductors in the world? This wonderful documentary answers that question and offers viewers so much more: a trip of a lifetime to Israel. The journey starts at the Myerson Symphony Center in Dallas, Texas, as we meet members of the Dallas Symphony Chorus, including its director, David Davidson, who will perform in Jerusalem the Symphony of 1000, Gustav Mahler's 8th Symphony, with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, whose music director is the one and only Zubin Mehta. Upon arriving in Israel the chorus rehearses with its director in Bat Yam; then with conductor Mehta in Jerusalem; next they get to become tourists and view Jerusalem's most famous sites, including the Wailing Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. We witness the opening night's first performance; see the chorus members visiting the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem; having fun at the Dead Sea; then view the final part at the final performance led by maestro Mehta. Lastly, atop the ancient fortress, Masada, site of the Great Jewish Revolt (Jewish-Roman War), members of the chorus sing the modern day Jewish National Anthem, which concludes our thrilling journey. Produced by Quin Mathews. 03/10DE PIJSCA 30 min.
