Bicycling 1: Bicycle Life Among the BMXers

CINE Golden Eagle Award
BMX style bicycle racing has been steadily gaining popularity in the U. S. and has evolved into an exciting outdoor experience for the entire family. The National Bicycle League has thousands of registered members who race virtually every weekend. BMXers compete in their own age groups, in highly organized "qualifying format" race programs at BMX tracks throughout the U.S. At a typical track on a single race day, 2500 BMXers will compete in over 350 individual races. Through actual race footage and interviews with novice and professional BMX racers, this classic award-winning program provides a close-up view of what it takes to be a BMX competitor. From personal conditioning to bike selection, the program shows that proper preparation is an essential ingredient to this demanding sport. The viewer learns how to relax, stay low, speed jump, and swoop, as well as other BMX racing techniques, to ensure fast starts and consistent performance. Viewers are also introduced to free style BMXing, where riders perform creative jumps and demonstrate unusual balance and control of the bike. The theme of this program is that the BMX experience helps participants develop self-confidence, self-discipline, and a sense of accomplishment that will enhance their lives and make them better adults. 95/12DE IJSCA 30 min.
