Salazar 1 (Roland Rose)

"Recommended. Salazar expounds on the meaning of his work, art versus commerce, and other topics; also quotes from Matisse, O'Keeffe and Picasso are interspersed." -Booklist
Popularly known as "Salazar," Roland Rose is a unique artist who inspires others artists and lovers of art with his commitment to "pure" art, which he explains is, "painting what's inside you; painting what you feel, " In this insightful biography we see his abstract-expressionistic paintings confirm his devotion to painting for the joy of expressing his feelings, not solely to paint for commercial gain. His celebrated name we discover reflects an intense love for Mexico that dates back to his father's visits to Mexico City in the 1920s and throughout the program we view examples of his major art works which reflect the spirit of Mexico, such as Con Tu Permiso: Dioses, Tierra y Gente de Mexico; Expressions of Spirituality; Cinco de Mayo; The Four Seasons of the Master Myth; Vibraciones Mexicanas. The artist we discover also spends much of his time in Maine and as we view other examples of art that "explodes with color" we learn more of his life and philosophies, including a Jewish heritage he discovered late in life. As curator Helen Rivas said, "his refined sensibilities are constantly in lovers with a keen eye will enjoy Salazar's wit, compassion, color and design." Produced by Chip Taylor. 07/12DE JSCA 45 min.
