Northern Ireland's County Fermanagh boasts stately manors, majestic waterways, rolling hills and all the charms of Europe. First we visit Devenish or Ox Island, located in Lower Lough Erne, it contains one of the finest monastic sites in Northern Ireland, along with an almost perfect 12th century Round Tower, which was typical of such early settlements. Next, on the outskirts of Enniskillen, stands Castle Coole, one of the treasures of the National Trust, and the family home of the Earls of Belmore; designed by James Wyatt, this magnificent neo-classical house took ten years to build and was completed in 1798. Lastly, we visit Belleek Pottery, which was established in 1857 and holds a very special place in the cultural and commercial heritage of this county; it is known throughout the world today for Irish craftsmanship pottery, including fine Parian China. 2010/2E IJSCA 15 min.
