Not a Clinging Vine: 3 Texas Ranch Women

Not a Clinging Vine: 3 Texas Ranch Women

"Highly Recommended. This program documents three generations of take-charge women who are living proof of how the Old West was won.: true grit has no gender." -National Media Review
This classic documentary is a sensitive portrait of three generations of ranch women from three different ranches located in Alpine, Texas. First we meet Hallie Stillwell of the Stillwell Ranch. Hallie was 94 when this program was produced; she had lived on her ranch for 72 years. She wrote a book titled, I'll Gather My Geese, and her recollections of ranch life provided this program with the inspiration for its title: "There was lots to overcome and they didn't think I would last for 6 months, but I was not a clinging vine." Next, Beverly Weyerts of Weyerts' Ranch shares how she and her mother have had to ranch two ranches since her father passed away, but whether it's breaking in a horse or roping in some cattle or sheep, there's really nothing she can't do on the ranch. The last rancher we meet is Kay Love who lives with her husband and children on the Persimmon Gap Ranch. Because her husband has responsibilities away from the ranch, Kay, along with her daughter, handle most of the duties of the ranch and offers a real-life assessment of ranching in general, "the rewards are great, but the work is hard."
