Africa: Two Steps Forward
This program documents two successful projects in Africa, and we learn that development does not always have to be about some large machine. Advancements can be taken in very small steps. The first project is the development of mills that provide flour and bran for sale. Before mills were introduced, it took more than an hour just to produce 1 kilogram of cereal, but this simple machine now makes it a quick and simple process. The next issue is the need for firewood and the resulting deforestation because of the demand. Many droughts also have made wood scarce; yet there is still a high demand for wood. Teaching the reforestation process to Africans is the next project. A local tree-planting project created to hold back the desert and supply firewood introduces African tribes to the reforestation process, and we see an African tribe that has been very successful using the reforestation process. 2010/2E IJSCA 30 min.
