This classic documentary offers a sensitive portrait and explores the life and works of legendary Andean folk artist, Juan Félix Sánchez (1900 - 1997), who was born in San Rafael de Mucuchíes, Mérida, Venezuela. Here we see how the reclusive artist lived and worked for 40 years in a remote valley 12,000 feet up in the Venezuelan Andes. His entire life was devoted to "acknowledging and uncovering the land, the beauty and the people." The artist's talents included weaving and sculpture; plus he was a self-taught architect and builder. Today, people traveling to Mérida often visit his most renowned legacy, the handmade Stone Church in San Rafael. Produced by Calogero Salvo. 2010DR/CL JSCA 30 min.
