"Highly Recommended! The premise of this production is a woman-on-the street interview with many people, asking for the one piece of advice they have to make a woman perfect. The answers range from 'Take control of your life,' 'Don't get married,' 'Get an AIDS' test,' to 'Don't be dependent on a man.' The interviews are interspersed with dramatic scenes, such as, Elizabeth I and a traditional homemaker. Many ideas of womanhood are given. A well-done and light-handed vehicle for discussion." -VRG Review
There is a lot of speculation as to where the idiom "close your eyes and think of England" originated; some credit England's Queen Victoria, others Lady Alice Hillingdon. Over the years it has universally come to refer to unwanted sex in a humorous way, and it's the perfect title for this program, which adds a twist to the phrase by trying to characterize modern-day womanhood. Here we see a number of fast-paced, woman-on-the-street interviews with a variety of people, asking for the one piece of advice they have to make a woman perfect, mixed-in with dramatic scenes featuring women from historical to modern times. Intelligent and witty; it scores a "ten" at triggering discussions about what it means to be an adult woman. Produced by Janis Lundman. 09DR JSCA 30 min.
