"Ray Hicks, the famous teller of Appalachian Jack Tales, is one of America's best-loved storytellers." -Robert Isbell, Author, Ray Hicks, Master Storyteller of the Blue Ridge
Ray Hicks told stories of the Southern Appalachian Mountains all his adult life; he became revered as the "father of Jack Tales" and during his lifetime received national recognition from the Smithsonian Institution and National Endowment for the Arts. He lived where he was born in western North Carolina and told stories with his traditional Appalachian accent, an accent he said dated back to the days of Daniel Boone. As you listen, you may encounter phrases that are initially unfamiliar, but that is part of the fun of listening to a Ray Hicks' tale! So by the time you hear the whole story, it will all come together, and you'll understand why these tales remain so popular. Produced by Luke Barrow. Series: 5 x 30-minute programs.
