Pack Burro Race: Triple Crown
Pack burro racing, like horse racing, has its own Triple Crown, with races in Leadville, Buena Vista, and Fairplay, Colorado; the latter town hosts the World Championship. Pack burro racing is the only sport indigenous to the state of Colorado and its roots lie in the state's mining heritage. Because the burros, the Spanish word for donkeys, carried the supplies, miners would lead the animals, which is the objective of each race. This program offers highlights of these three races, which commemorate the miners and their burros. 08DR IJSCA 60 min.

Pack Burro Race: World Championship 1

The race, which is part of a Burro Days' celebration, is called the "highest, longest, roughest, and toughest," and entrants must be in tip-top shape - racers and burros have to run 29 miles, climbing up to 3,000 feet. Burros must wear a pack with traditional mining gear, weighing in at 35 pounds, and the burro must be led the entire race by a halter attached to a rope not more than 15 feet long. Simple to understand, very difficult to accomplish, the race is a tribute to the animals and their role in the Old West mining days, and because the burro is a stubborn animal, this makes for interesting "racing." 08DR IJSCA 50 min.

Pack Burro Race: World Championship 2

The burro, which is the Spanish word for donkey, must be led the entire race by a halter attached to a rope not more than 15 feet long. Although simple to understand, it is very difficult to accomplish, not only because of the endurance issue, but because the burro is a stubborn animal, which makes for some interesting "racing." This Championship race is a part of the town's "Burro Days," a tribute to the animals and their role in the Old West mining days. 08DR IJSCA 50 min.

Just imagine being on top of a two-thousand-pound bull; also riders must ride the bull with only one hand and cannot touch themselves or their bull with the free hand or they end up with no score. Obviously, riders require excellent balance, flexibility, coordination, and a lot of courage. In this program we get to view some of the worlds best bull riders, during the Mile-Hi Bull Riders' Showdown. 08DR IJSCA 90 min.
