points." -EMRO Review Part 1: Canton Awaking - Here we witness the transformation of the urban landscape of Canton, China, as it opens up to international trade, which is referred to as the "National Effort." Here we meet Mr. and Mrs. Huang who provide daycare for their family's children and others. Next we meet one of 500,000 immigrant construction workers who work here for meager wages. Then we meet Mr. and Mrs. Liwai who travel by motor scooter since Canton is the most densely populated city in China and shares honors with Shaghaï for most traffic jams. Part 2: Calcutta: Future Prospects - The Howrah Bridge, a symbol of the city's British past, stands over the Hooghly River, a branch of the Ganges, and a popular fishing spot for generations of people such as Mr. Primlani, a local businessman. Next we meet Mr. Parakh, a factory worker in the European business district for over 20 years, and Mr. Dabriwalo, who works in the Indian commercial district, called "Barabazar," and Mr. Nancy who works as a mason. | Founded in 1836, the City of Houston today has a population of nearly two million people and is the fourth most populous city in the United States, and the largest in Texas. The Houston-Galveston-Brazoria Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area, called Houston CMSA, consists of eight counties: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller. This metro area's population of 4.8 million is the 10th largest in the U.S., covering an area larger than the state of New Jersey. Houston is the home of NASA, the world's largest space center, and in this program we first meet former astronaut Joseph Kerwin, who trains future astronauts. Then we meet David Murphy who works in the oil refinery business. We learn that the city is home to more than 5,000 energy-related firms, and is considered by many to be the Energy Capital of the world; also its port ranks as the nation's largest in international tonnage. | Part 1: São Paolo, Brazil - São Paolo, Brazil, with a population of 18-plus million people is larger than most countries. It is the largest city in South America, and after Mexico City, the second largest in the Western Hemisphere. It evokes both rich and overwhelming images, futuristic and backward, positive and negative. There are many wealthy people here, and many poor; also about 20% of the population lives in extreme poverty. Here we meet Mr. Da Silva and Mrs. Fernandez who live in a shantytown, which Brazilians call a "favela." Then we visit São Paolo's upper class Garden District and meet Claudine Boussardon who lives there and Jayuson who works there. Next we tour the city's business district and see why São Paolo, the financial and industrial capital of Brazil, is indeed a megalopolis of opportunity. Part 2: Tinfou, Morocco - If you truly want to get away from it all, you'll get your wish visiting Tinfou, which has the distinction of being the tallest sand dune in Morocco, about 100 feet tall, and is also the first known isolated dune people encounter before they venture into the great Sahara Desert. Although it is called "an oasis in the Sahara," it is still a harsh environment.
