Houses - This program traces the development and construction of houses from early times. Children build a model neighborhood; then viewers see a modern subdivision. Light Bulbs - Why are electric lights so important? At the General Electric plant, kids see the modern manufacture of incandescent bulbs and fluorescent tubes. Ice Cream and Popsicles - Kids learn about the "water ices" of the ancient Chinese. Then they make their own ice cream, and visit a plant that makes Popsicles and ice cream. Peanuts - Kids observe the farming of peanuts, use shells in art projects, and learn about George Washington Carver's hundreds of uses for the peanut plant. Dolls - Why are dolls so popular? At a doll factory, kids see plastic and vinyl dolls being made, as well as haircutting, face-painting, and assembly procedures. Crayons and Markers - This is an historical exploration of writing and drawing, and the implements we use; then a visit to a factory where crayons and markers are made. Clocks and Watches - Viewers learn about the history of timepieces and their role in daily life, and visit clock factories. 6. Printing a Newspaper; Radio & Television; The Post Office
Printing a Newspaper - Viewers visit a newspaper to see how the early morning edition of a big-city paper is laid out, printed, and distributed. Radio and Television - After visits to a radio station and a television studio and control room, children make a TV studio out of a cardboard box, and put on a radio show.
