| Whether you're catching forty winks, taking a siesta, having a catnap, snoozing or full out dreaming the night away; sleep is one of the most important factors structuring our lives; it has a tremendous effect on our overall ability to function on a daily basis. In this program noted sleep expert Craig Heller, M.D., a Professor of Biology at Stanford University, who has written over 80 publications on neurobiology, addresses the biology of sleep, which can include circadian (roughly 24-hour) rhythms, the regulation of body temperature, mammalian hibernation, and human exercise physiology. Dr. Heller, who is also co-director of the Center for Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology, which fosters a better understanding of the function of sleep, researches human exercise physiology, and focuses on the effects of body temperature on physical conditioning and performance, also explains why sleep patterns differ so widely among human beings, and how sleep changes throughout one's lifespan. 08DR/CL SCA 30 min. |
